The Chair of the Bacup THI Project has issued a statement following the THI Board Meeting on Tuesday the 1st of August.
“The THI public realm scheme is facing uncertainty after Lancashire County Council has been unable to confirm that the project will receive its support. The THI board has confirmed its support for scheme, which has been tweaked following recent public feedback including the public meeting. The board has given LCC a seven day deadline to confirm support for the proposal and start the legal process to deliver the scheme. The uncertainty is unhelpful and is putting £747,000 of funding at risk. The proposal will improve the image of Bacup, bringing in new visitors and encouraging much needed investment. It will also install up to five new pedestrian crossings, slow the traffic down improving safety, extend the pavements to create a new public space, install two new mini roundabouts to improve traffic flow, relocate the 464 bus stop preventing a U-turn manoeuvre, provide additional loading bays, increase disabled parking bays and install cycle rack provision. The board call on Lancashire County Council and local county councillors to end the uncertainty and confirm the decision.”
