Bacup’s economic and social history has been shaped by the influence of water: either too much or too little! Floods were frequent: drinking water scarce: by 1848 the town was a mess. How did this come about, and what were the results of sorting it out?
Join us on this free guided walk to learn more about this fascinating and sometimes scary story of Bacaup’s hidden past.
The walk is being led by Kathy Fishwick. Kathy is chairperson of Rossendale Civic Trust and an advisor to the Ancient Monuments Society. She has an extensive knowledge of the history of Bacup and undertook research that helped to establish the Bacup Conservation Area in 1981.
There is no need to pre-book a place on the walk and anyone wishing to take part should assemble at Irwell Terrace in Bacup Town Centre for 10:00am.
