THI Work Begins in Bacup

On   Monday 27th April work commenced on the Pioneer Building ,   Rochdale Road, Bacup as part of the £2 million Bacup Townscape Heritage   Initiative Programme. 

The work will be   divided into 3 distinct phases and Phase 1 will see the complete   refurbishment of both the Pioneer Building on Rochdale Road and the RSPCA   building at 33 St James Street.

As   part of the works on Phase 1 we are intending to bring the Pioneer clock back   into full working order and we have had discussions with the original   installers of the clock to get them to come back and restore the clock to its   former glory.

Diane   Van Ruitenbeek Vice Chair of the Bacup THI Partnership Board said  “ It’s really good news to see the works   start on the THI programme. The THI Partnership Board are committed to making   the scheme a success and the project team will be working closely with   building owners and businesses to ensure the work programme runs as smoothly   as possible”.

Stephen   Jackson Head of Health Housing and Regeneration at Rossendale Council said   “It will be great to see the work start in Bacup, it’s a fantastic town with   strong heritage assets for the Valley that we are keen to preserve and the   THI project is enabling this.”

In   total the Bacup THI Programme will include improvement works to 22 retail   premises in the heart of Bacup.
